If you have asked for two or three artificial grass quotes in Gran Canaria, this has probably happened to you: one says €22/m², another €48/m², and neither explains why. Nobody is trying to trick you. It is simply that "artificial grass installed" can mean very different things depending on what is underneath.
In this article we break the price down piece by piece, with the ranges used on the island today, so you can read any quote and know exactly what you are comparing.

Short answer: our installation prices, published
Most companies do not publish prices. We do, because you should be able to do the maths before anyone comes to your home. The final price has two parts: the installation and the turf model you choose.
Installation (labour and ground preparation)
| Surface type | Price | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Paved area / roof terrace / balcony | €9.00/m² | Cleaning and fixing onto the existing surface |
| Soil / garden | €20.00/m² | Ground preparation, aggregates, compaction and geotextile |
Turf models
| Model | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Classic 30 | €11.90/m² | Best value for residential use. Gardens, terraces and roof terraces |
| Essential 27 | €15.35/m² | Terraces and balconies with occasional use. Natural look, very soft underfoot |
| Premium 30 | €17.99/m² | Maximum realism and performance. Gardens and terraces in frequent use |
That is the whole formula: installation + model. There are no hidden line items. You can see all three models in our turf range.
The total price, in one table
| Classic 30 | Essential 27 | Premium 30 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| On a terrace or roof terrace | €20.90/m² | €24.35/m² | €26.99/m² |
| On soil or garden | €31.90/m² | €35.35/m² | €37.99/m² |
Compare that with the figures repeated across national artificial grass websites, which put a mid-quality installation between €40 and €60/m². The difference is not cheaper material: it is that there is no middleman or branch network to pay for.
The gap between the two rows of the installation table is exactly why two quotes can look so different: installing on soil costs more than double installing on a hard floor, because it means clearing, removing topsoil, adding and compacting aggregates and laying the geotextile before the turf is even touched.
The five factors that move the price
1. What is underneath the turf
By far the biggest variable. Laying on a flat, clean terrace is quick: clean, set out, cut, join and finish. On soil you have to clear the ground, remove topsoil, add and compact aggregates, level and lay the weed-control geotextile. In our rates that is the difference between €9/m² and €20/m², and it explains most of the gap between two quotes that look like the same job at first glance.
Watch out for a common trap: some quotes only include "supply and lay" and leave ground preparation out. On paper they look very cheap. In practice it reappears as an extra once you have signed.
2. Which turf model you choose
The market runs from €6/m² to over €40/m². The difference is not how it looks on day one, but how it looks in its third summer. That is why we do not sell bargain-bin ranges: with the UV levels we have here, turf without serious UV treatment is not cheaper, it is more expensive spread over fewer years.
- Classic 30 — the one most customers choose and our default recommendation for homes. Natural look and the best balance of price and durability for gardens, terraces and roof terraces.
- Essential 27 — slightly shorter fibre and especially soft underfoot. A good fit for terraces and balconies in occasional use, where comfort matters more than wear.
- Premium 30 — the most realistic and hard-wearing. Worth it with daily traffic: children, pets, a seating area used every day.
On a 30 m² terrace, the difference between Classic and Premium is around €180. On a surface you will look at every day for ten years, that is a decision worth making by seeing and walking on the samples, not by reading a description.
In the Canarian climate, UV treatment is not a marketing extra: it is the difference between turf that lasts a decade and turf that turns grey in three years. We cover it in detail in our guide to choosing artificial grass for sun, calima dust and sea salt.
3. Total square metres
Fixed costs (getting the team there, machinery, admin, material transport) are spread across the project's square metres. That is why the price per m² drops clearly above 50 – 80 m², and why small 10 or 15 m² jobs often carry a minimum charge. It is not an arbitrary surcharge: moving a team for half a day costs the same for 12 m² as for 120.
4. Where you are on the island
Gran Canaria is small but very vertical. A villa in Maspalomas with vehicle access and an inner courtyard in central Las Palmas where material has to be carried up a stairwell by hand are two different jobs. What matters is not the kilometres but the access: if 2-metre-wide rolls have to go up a staircase, extra labour appears.
We regularly work in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Telde, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Vecindario, Ingenio, Agüimes, Arucas, Gáldar, Mogán and San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
5. Edging and accessories
- Geotextile weed membrane: essential on soil
- Jointing tape and two-component polyurethane adhesive: badly made seams are the most visible medium-term failure
- Silica sand: 4 – 6 kg/m² depending on the model; keeps the fibre upright and stabilises the turf
- Perimeter trims, drainage grilles, tree pits, steps
- Drainage base or shockpad where a play area needs impact attenuation
Two things that only apply in the Canaries: IGIC and shipping
IGIC instead of VAT. The general Canarian rate is 7 %, against 21 % on the mainland. On a €3,000 project that is around €420 in your favour. Make sure the quote states whether the price includes tax, because not everyone shows it the same way.
Sea freight. Artificial grass is not manufactured on the islands: it arrives in rolls by ship. That makes the material 10 – 20 % more expensive than the mainland prices advertised on national websites. Be careful with sites showing mainland prices that then do not ship to the Canaries, or add carriage at checkout.
Is it worth it? The ten-year maths
Artificial grass is a high upfront investment with almost no running cost. The honest comparison with natural grass, for a typical 60 m² garden on the island, looks like this:
| Item | Natural (per year) | Artificial (per year) |
|---|---|---|
| Irrigation water | €250 – 500 | €0 |
| Mowing, feeding, reseeding | €300 – 700 | €0 |
| Treatments and seed | €80 – 150 | €0 |
| Brushing and cleaning | — | €30 – 60 |
In Gran Canaria that first line weighs more than almost anywhere else in Spain. The Canaries have a structural drought, much of the water is desalinated and its cost is not going down. A well-executed installation typically pays for itself in 4 to 7 years, and from then on it is clean saving for the rest of the turf's life.
How to compare two quotes without getting it wrong
- Model and datasheet: fibre height in mm, density in stitches/m², fibre type and written warranty
- Ground preparation: included or separate?
- Removal of rubble and old turf: a real cost that sometimes vanishes from the paperwork
- Weed membrane, adhesives and silica sand: included or not
- Wastage: turf comes in 2 or 4 m wide rolls and there is always offcut; the quote should say how it is charged
- Lead time and warranty on the installation, not just the manufacturer's
- IGIC: included or excluded
If one quote is 40 % cheaper than the rest, something from this list is almost always missing.
Frequently asked questions
How much does artificial grass cost on a 20 m² terrace in Las Palmas?
With our rates the maths is direct: 20 m² × €9/m² installation = €180, plus the model. With Classic 30 (€11.90/m²) that is €238 of material, so the project comes to €418. With Premium 30 it would be €540. Check it with your real measurements in the calculator.
Can it be laid straight onto tiles or porcelain?
Yes, as long as the floor is sound, clean and has a fall for drainage. It is the cheapest and fastest installation.
Do I have to remove my existing natural lawn?
Yes. The turf and topsoil (around 5 – 10 cm) must be removed before building the base. Leaving it underneath causes dips and odours.
How long does it last?
Well-installed mid-range turf with proper UV treatment lasts 10 to 15 years in Canarian conditions. Factory warranties usually cover 8 – 12 years against fading.
How long does the installation take?
A residential project of up to 100 m² on a hard floor is normally done in 1 – 2 days. On soil, 2 to 4 days because of the base preparation.
